Shoes for Show

If you haven't been to Brick Lane recently, now is a good time to go. There is an interesting exhibition about shoes specifically created for special occasions, which ends tomorrow.

Nicholas Kirkwood, Alice in Wonderland

Featuring one-off pairs from private collections of well-known figures, these shoes are not meant for walking but can nonetheless be admired for their beauty.

Nicholas Kirkwood shoes are my favourite! He designed them on request from the Parisian department store Printemps, who were launching theme displays ahead of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. The shoes are just as extraordinary as the movie.

Gareth Pugh

You can also see Gareth Pugh's ankle boots worn by Beyonce in her video Who Run The World (Girls). There's also a pair of shoes designed by Christian Louboutin for The National Ballet which were auctioned at the ENB Summer Party last June.

Christian Louboutin

"I could not help being inspired by English National Ballet... After all, isn't the classical dancing ballet slipper the ultimate heel? The heel which makes dancers closer than any other women to the sky, closer to heaven?" Christian Louboutin

And I have to mention the adorable Alexander McQueen miniature Armadillo shoe! The Armadillo shoes, from the SS 2010 'Platos Atlantis' collection, have been famously worn by Lady Gaga and Daphne Guinness.

In line with exhibition 'Savage Beauty' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, a miniature version was sold in the Met shop becoming sold out in record time and is now a collectible item in its own right.

If you want to watch these and other innovative shoes carefully, rush to Brick Lane!
