In a way these street lights imbue us with spiritual warmth bringing to mind childhood memories when Christmas was a thrill. But as we grow older, it is less about receiving and more about giving. More than how much we're able to spend for each person, the attitude of putting ourselves in someone else's shoes is what matters most.

This care and willingness to make others happy give meaning to our lives and should extend far beyond the festive season but even if this is not the case, the most important thing is not to get caught up with a shopping frenzy mentality. Let's admire the beauty of Christmas decorations as an outer manifestation of inner love.

This year, I haven't been out in the streets of London yet but received images of the amazing Christmas displays at Printemps in Paris. Marion Cotillard, who features on Harper's Bazaar December cover, attended the inauguration of the fabulous decorations by Christian Dior.

They play with fantasy and wonderland characters, creative minds always draw inspiration from unseen worlds and try to materialise them. This is the case of several architects who tried to recreate the ultimate peaceful refuge, a tree house. Taschen has just published Tree Houses. Fairy Tale Castles in the Air, an inspiring book of the ultimate symbol of life in symbiosis with nature.
